After a few years of leading the no-code industry we wanted to revisit what no-code is and what it means.

No-Code
What is no-code? Well the simple answer is a one-line sentence. No-code is building software automations or applications through configuration and not code. The dream of no-code was that you'd be able to use a platform that looks a bit like powerpoint to draw a picture of an application, press a button and ‘zip zoop zap’ out would pop piece of software that nobody could tell hadn't been produced by a bunch of developers.
Of course the promise of no-code has been around for years. It goes back to the first personal computers and Bill Gates saying that with visual basic we'd be able to build anything. Really it didn't come of age until about 2018 when platforms like Bubble, Webflow and Airtable got good enough for anyone to build their own software.
Now no-code has become cool and hip it is the ‘punk rock’ of software engineering and so lots and lots of people are using the #nocode hashtag and sticking it on their software or their cv or their agency and that muddies the water a little bit.
There are those people that want to stir up controversy and say that no code is the arch nemesis of ‘code’ which it isn't it's just part the same toolkit that we all use to build our software. You can build a piece of software with no-code and code together like friends. No-coders can also be coders, coders can also be no-coders. There's no enemies here.
No-code is here to stay. There are now millions of citizen developers building their own software and releasing their own applications without ever writing a line of code. According to Gartner 65% of all applications will be built with no-code or low-code platforms by the year 2025. That doesn't mean that code is going away, we're just seeing lots more applications being built than were ever built before because everybody can do it.
So where do i go if i want to be one of these no-code people? Well a good place to start is to look for a no-code platform that you're happy using. If you’re building a website go to Webflow. If you're building an application probably use Bubble. If you're looking to do some cool databases go to Airtable. If you're an enterprise and you want to get involved in no-code Mendix is probably the answer for you, but either way if you're really stuck you can come to Million Labs.
