This month, we have 2 Bubble updates to share with you. Let's get into it!
Bubble releases Version 23 (and 24/25)
While Bubble is currently on version 25, there have been three updates in rapid succession over the last month or so.
I want to talk about Version 23 over the other two this time round as it brings a lot to the table worth mentioning. Version 23 is a huge update to how privacy rules interact with data, especially in backend workflows.
Previously, privacy rules only had a depth of “1”, meaning that in these cases, it would only apply to X’s Y, and anything beyond that the rules fell apart. But with the latest update, it now supports multiple layers of “depth”, such as X’s Y’s Z. This should help keep data more secure, especially when exposing endpoints for various API purposes.
Everything here now boils down to “is the Current User allowed to see this”, checking all the privacy rules and finally obeying them. However, if you do want to have an API be totally accessible, there's always the “ignore privacy rules” checkbox.
In the aftermath of this update, you might want to revisit your privacy rules and update them.
Bubble announces first ever “BubbleCon”
While there have been several no-code summits where Bubble has had a large presence, they’ve recently released the dates for their new event, “BubbleCon”. It’s set to take place in NYC on October 24th - 25th 2023.
If travelling over to the states is a bit too far of a trek for you, they’ll also be hosting the same event virtually, so there’s no need to worry about missing out!
If you are planning on attending in person, Bubble are advising that you hold off on booking any accommodation & travel arrangements until you receive official confirmation from Bubble, “RSVP”, that you will have a ticket.
They haven’t released details on venue, pricing or availability yet, presumably because they’re trying to gauge interest first. However, you can subscribe to their updates and be the first to know of when this information is made public!
Get no-code certified with Bubble
Bubble has recently released its official developer certification exam - a 90-question long test designed to gauge your skill with no-code.
If you pass, you’ll get an official certification to “prove” your status as a developer who knows their stuff. The exam costs $50 and grants you 2 attempts within a 3-month period. It should be noted that the 90 questions you get are drawn from a much larger pool, so pure memorisation won’t help you here.
Bubble markets this as a way to “win more clients” and “unlock career” opportunities, but either way, it’s definitely worth a look into if you’re serious about your no-code development.
The certification is shown on your Bubble Forum profile, and is apparently recognised on LinkedIn - a big win for your portfolio!
Currently, there's a waitlist you’ll need to join so that you can get your invite, and they reckon that the test itself should take the average developer 2 hours to complete, but “more time (3.5 hours) is given”.
Bubble says that this certification is only the beginning, with plans to release multiple “levels” of certification down the line, allowing the more advanced Bubblers to really show their mettle.
However, it should be noted that this “certification” does only last for one year; you’ll need to “renew” it by doing the exam again.
